It includes cost of one stent, surgeon fees, 2 to 3 day stay at the hospital, food for the patient, drugs and other consumables. If more than one stent is required, then the cost will be charged additionally for each stent.
If you are considering coming to Delhi for angioplasty, then I would suggest you consider NABH/JCI accredited hospitals only.
Coronary Angioplasty (PTCA), also known as balloon angioplasty is an interventional procedure to open narrowed arteries or veins. It is a very effective and minimally invasive procedure to increase the blood flow to the heart. Healthy arteries have smooth inner walls and blood flows through them easily to all over the heart muscles. Clogging of arteries develop in a person due to accumulation of plaque over a period of time usually over 40 years of age, or at times even blocks the flow of blood to the heart. This greatly increases the risk of heart attack, stroke and even sudden cardiac arrest leads to death.
The different types of procedures used in coronary angioplasty (PTCA) to unblock or open the arteries are:-
- 1. A catheter with a small balloon tip is guided to the clogged artery. The balloon is then inflated inside the artery to push the plaque and stretch the artery open to increase blood flow to the heart.
- 2. A balloon catheter, placed over a guide wire puts a small mesh called Stent into the clogged coronary artery. This stent acts as a scaffold to support the inside of the coronary artery to prevent it from further narrowing of the artery. The balloon is then deflated and removed while the stent stays in place.
The estimated cost of coronary angioplasty (PTCA), depends upon the below mentioned factors in determining the overall cost.
- 1. Metro Cities or Small Cities
The cost of angioplasty varies with the city too. For example, angioplasty costs approximately INR 2 lacs in Delhi while in Moradabad, it is INR 1.2 lacs and so on. - 2. Type of Stent Used
The cost of overall surgery depends on the medical condition of the patient and the type of stent used during the procedure. For example, The difference in price depends upon a bare metal stent is deployed, a drug-eluting stent (DES) or a bioabsorbable one. Till early 2017, the three kinds of stents amounted to INR 20,000-40,000 (Bare Metal), INR 24000-1,50,000(DES Stents) and INR 1,70,000-2,00,000(Bioabsorbable Stents). However, with recent dip in prices by the National Pharmaceutical Pricing Authority, a bare metal stent will now amount to INR 7,500 and a DES to INR 30,000 resulting in a decreased overall package cost.
